Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum: Review & Tasting Notes
About Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum
Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum is a white rum distilled in Grenada from locally-grown, hand-cut sugar cane.
The River Antoine Estate distillery, located in a 400 acre property near Lake Antoine on Grenada's north east coast, was established in 1785. Remarkably, the way rum is produced there has hardly changed in 230 years. The sugar cane is crushed by a mill powered by the distillery's original 18th Century water wheel, and the resulting juice is fermented (for up to 10 days) in the open air using only naturally occurring wild yeasts. Once distilled, using heat from a wood fire, the rum is bottled by hand straight from the estate's 2 copper pot stills. World Rum Guide Review Rivers Royale Grenadian Rum is fresh and fruity on the nose. At 69% ABV, initiallyit is almost overpowering, but stick with it and you'll notice sweet and grassy flavours with bursts of orange peel. The locals drink it neat and it is surprisingly smooth, but at 138 proof 'Rivers' won't be a sipping rum for everyone. - Carl Jackson, 2019 |
