Matusalem Platino Rum: Review & Tasting Notes
About Matusalem Platino Rum
Matusalem Platino is a blend of triple distilled, solera aged and filtered Caribbean rums. The combination of ageing and filtering through charcoal helps to remove the harsh taste often associated with white rums.
Matusalem and Company was founded by Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, brothers who emigrated from Spain in the 1870s and settled in Cuba, bringing with them the Spanish solera method for ageing sherry. Following the 1959 Cuban Revolution, the family relocated production first to the USA and then to the Dominican Republic, where the distillery is now based. The name 'Matusalem' is the Spanish word for Methuselah, the Old Testament figure who is said to have lived for 969 years, and was a reference by the original Camp brothers to their production of well-aged rums. World Rum Guide Review Matusalem Platino is pleasingly smooth for a white rum, but is still best served mixed. Aromas of coconut are followed by a sweet entry to the palate. The finish is long, sweet and surprisingly smooth, with fruity notes. It will work well in any cocktail which calls for a white rum and is unlikely to overpower the other flavours. - Carl Jackson, 2019 |
