Goslings Black Seal Rum: Review & Tasting Notes
About Goslings Black Seal Rum
Goslings Black Seal Rum is blended in Bermuda from a combination of column and pot still rums from across the Caribbean, before ageing in re-charred ex-bourbon oak barrels.
The Gosling family's association with Bermuda began when James Gosling, an English wine and spirits merchant, landed on Bermuda in 1806. They have been producing rum on the island since 1857. During World War 2, bottles were so scarce that Goslings bottled their rum in discarded champagne bottles from the Royal Air Force's officers' mess. The bottles were resealed with black wax and locals in need of rum began asking the Goslings for the 'black seal' - and the brand was born. The image of a barrel-juggling black seal was added to the label many years later. World Rum Guide Review Goslings Black Seal rum is flavourful dark rum which is ideal for mixing, most famously with ginger beer to make Goslings' signature Dark 'n' Stormy cocktail. Aromas of sweet caramel, molasses and dried fruit are followed by the taste of molasses, liquorice, cinnamon and vanilla on the palate, with clear herbal notes. The finish is warm, lingering and spicy. - Carl Jackson, 2019 |
