El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum: Review & Tasting Notes
About El Dorado 12 Year Old Rum
A blend of rums no younger than 12 years old and aged in oak bourbon casks, El Dorado 12 is the product of Demerara Distillers' Enmore and Diamond column stills and its Port Mourant double wooden pot still.
In the 1700s Guyana (then comprised of 3 Dutch colonies) was home to 300 distilleries, but as small estates merged with each other, this number fell to around 180 by the second half of the 19th Century. In 1998 Demerara Distillers Ltd, producer of the El Dorado range of rums, bought up all Guyana's remaining stills and brought them together at Guyana's last remaining sugar estate - the Diamond Estate on the Demerara River. World Rum Guide Review Sweet on the nose with notes of brown sugar and citrus, El Dorado 12 is full-bodied, smooth and creamy on the palate. Vanilla and orange peel flavours are followed by a dry and smooth finish with spicy notes. - Carl Jackson, 2019 |
