Dictador 12 Rum: Review & Tasting Notes
About Dictador 12 Rum
Dictador 12 is a solera aged rum blended from rums aged between 8 to 14 years, with an average age of 12 years. The rums are distilled from cane syrup rather than molasses before being aged in American former whisky barrels. To bring the rum's ABV down to 40% after distillation, water is added in drops over a 4 week period.
The distillery is located in Cartagena de Indias on Colombia's northern Caribbean coast. Founded in 1913 by Don Julio Aranga y Parra, it produces not only a range of rums but also coffee, cigars and gin. Don Julio is a descendant of Severo Arango y Ferro, who oversaw trade between Spain and its colonies in the Americas in the 1700s and was nicknamed 'El Dictador'. World Rum Guide Review Dictador 12 is a light copper coloured rum with a pleasant aroma of caramel, honey and brown sugar. On the palate there are flavours of coffee, caramel and honey, ending in a smooth, creamy and complex finish with notes of oak and fruit - Carl Jackson, 2019 |
